Danilo lives in a house with his dog, awaiting the return of his long-lost mother. He doesn't go to school and supports himself by doing odd jobs in the neighborhood. Unbeknownst to Danilo, his mother perished in an accident and will not be returning. When the neighborhood learns that an unscrupulous real estate company has underhandedly acquired ownership of the neighborhood and plans to demolish their homes to make room for a new development, Danilo refuses to leave and befriends his reclusive and mysterious old neighbor, Julian. Julian is bitter over having lost his wife, his career as a concert pianist and a daughter whom he chased away when she became an unwed mother. Julian's great emotional pain has given him the inspiration to produce beautiful paintings. While out looking for work Danilo meets a young girl named Alejandra. Danilo and Alejandra's meeting will result in the beginning of a great friendship. Along with Julian, the three friends will become inseparable, even when it is revealed that Alejandra's father is the lawyer representing the company that wants to tear down Julian and Danilo's neighborhood.
